Dean College seeks an experienced, innovative, creative and collaborative professional to serve as the Assistant Dean for Academic Support Services and Director of the Learning Center.
About Dean College
Founded in 1865, Dean College is a private residential college located on 100 acres in Franklin, Massachusetts. Approximately 1,000 full-time students and 500 part-time students are enrolled in Associate Degrees for fifteen academic majors and Baccalaureate Degrees in Arts and Entertainment Management, Business, Liberal Arts and Studies, Theatre and Dance. Ninety percent of Dean students live on campus.
About the Position
Reporting to the Dean for Academic Support Services, the Assistant Dean for Academic Support Services and Director of the Learning Center will provide leadership and strategic vision for the Learning Center, all specialized tutorial services, and Disability Support Services. The Assistant Dean and Director is also a critical member of the Student Development and Retention team focusing on promoting student success, ensuring access, and enhancing the educational experience of all students. He or she will serve as a resource for the campus community, work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students, serve on various campus wide committees and will be involved in campus strategic initiatives and projects.
Successful Candidates
Specific responsibilities include:
- Supervise approximately 35 full and part time staff of the learning center including the Assistant Director of the Learning Center and Director of the Arch Learning community, Pathway Learning Community Coordinator, four team leaders, approximately thirty academic coaches and an administrative assistant.
- Develop, implement and assess all tutorial services including: Personalized Learning Services, Peer Tutoring, Drop-in Tutoring, and other course specific Learning Laboratories.
- Oversee the staff in Disability Support Services, specifically ensuring compliance with Federal ADA regulations in and outside of the classroom.
- Work closely with faculty to enhance academic support within the classroom.
Qualifications
- A master’s degree in education, psychology or a related field is required; a doctoral degree is preferred
- Five to seven years of full-time progressively responsible experience working with college students and various learning styles
- Knowledge of a wide range of learning disabilities is a must, as is a passion for working with students at risk
- Prior experience working with learning communities specifically designed for students with diagnosed learning disabilities and/or other learning challenges such as attention and memory difficulties that would benefit from additional academic skills development while taking part in a traditional college curriculum
- Knowledge of best practice and innovations in evaluating students’ potential for success at the institution and in providing effective programs and services to support academic success
- Strong supervisory experience and the ability to work with and lead teams of people
- Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to articulate program purposes and goals to the general public
- Excellent organizational, managerial, budgeting, problem solving, and technical skills
- Strong managerial skills, particularly in the areas of evaluating office processes for effectiveness and efficiency
- Experience working with a diverse student body
- Evidence of being highly approachable by students
