The College of Engineering at The University of Akron seeks an effective leader to serve as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the continued success in growing the College of Engineerings undergraduate program through recruitment and retention; manage the advising of undergraduate students; in consultation with faculty, oversee the undergraduate curricula; and administer and grow the scholarship program. In addition, the Associate Dean is expected to play a critical part in other important programs in the college, including Co-operative education, Women in Engineering, IDEAS (Increasing Diversity in Engineering Academics), and manage the ABET accreditation of all departments. The successful candidate will have the necessary credentials to qualify for an appointment as a tenured faculty member at the rank of full professor in one of the Colleges five academic departments. The position brings unique opportunities for collaborations with other academic and administrative units on campus to positively impact the education of undergraduate engineering students. The College seeks an individual with administrative experience in academia and an exemplary record of\ professional accomplishment. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering.
The University of Akron (www.uakron.edu) has one of the fastest growing undergraduate engineering student populations in the state of Ohio. Since 2004, the number of engineering undergraduates attending the university has increased by nearly 50%. The University of Akron is one of the largest public universities in the state with 28,000 students in over 200 undergraduate and graduate programs within degree granting colleges.
The College of Engineering consists of five departments including Biomedical, Chemical and Biomolecular, Civil, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical Engineering. Currently, the college has 2142 undergraduate and 317 graduate students pursuing degrees. Undergraduate programs are accredited by ABET, and a significant number of engineering students are enrolled in The Universitys Honors College. More than 90% of those eligible participate in the Co-operative education program, the fifth oldest in the U.S. The Colleges diverse faculty members have won numerous national and international awards.
