UA Names A.G. Monaco Human Resources VP

Akron, Ohio, Dec. 18, 2007 — Angelo-Gene (A.G.) Monaco has been named associate vice president for human resources and employee relations at The University of Akron. As the top human resources executive, he will oversee benefits, compensation, recruitment, labor relations, employee performance appraisals, and training and development programs. His first day will be Feb. 4.

Monaco comes to UA from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville (SIUE). During his 12-year career at SIUE, Monaco served as director of labor relations and director of human resources. He also taught undergraduate and graduate courses in human resources management and administration.

"A.G. is a talented, passionate leader with an impressive record of accomplishment," says Dr. F. John Case, UA's vice president for finance and administration. "He brings to us a wealth of knowledge in such critical areas as benefits, recruitment, performance appraisals, development programs and labor relations. And significantly, he is known as a highly engaged campus leader who reaches out to constituent groups as policy is being developed."

Monaco has extensive human resources experience. Before joining SIUE, Monaco was the associate vice president of administration at Oberlin College, director of human resources for the New York Zoological Society (now Wildlife Conservation Society) and a production analyst for the Bic Corp. and the Eveready Battery Co.

Along the way, Monaco has held additional positions such as a human resources consultant, adjunct professor and instructor, and newspaper columnist.

Monaco has received many honors, such as the SIUE Students First Award, SIUE University Image Award and recognition by the New York City mayor for the design and implementation of recruiting and training programs for minorities and women.

"The University of Akron is an institution whose continued growth is envied by professionals throughout higher education, and I am extremely excited that I will become a part of its continued excellence," says Monaco. "My family is also excited to be moving back to Ohio and we look forward to becoming active members of the community."

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Monaco graduated from Wake Forest University with a bachelor's degree in economics, and the University of New Haven with a master's degree in industrial and labor relations.
