Elmhurst College Announces new Dean of Students

Dr. Eileen G. Sullivan has been selected as the new Dean of Students at Elmhurst College. She will begin work on campus just after the Labor Day holiday.

Sullivan comes to Elmhurst from Northern Illinois University, where she had served as Assistant Vice President (interim) for Student Life.

Prior to coming to Illinois, Sullivan had been Assistant Vice President for Academic & Student Affairs (and Director of the “University Values Initiative”) at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and Vice President for Student Development at Loras College in Iowa.

Speaking earlier this month, she praised the high caliber of both Elmhurst College and its students. “Elmhurst College’s focus on responsible citizenship, as well as its commitment to instilling in students the perceived responsibility to better their society, speaks to preparing the kinds of leaders that our businesses, and yes, our society, so desperately need.”

Sullivan, who has published and presented on Educating Principled Citizens, also stated that she hopes to bring “an agenda of student success” to the 3,100-student campus community.

She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Illinois University, and earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Bowling Green State University.

Sullivan replaces Dr. Kathy MacKay, who accepted a similar position in her home state of Colorado.
