Stony Brook University Welcomes New Assistant Provost and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid
Stony Brook University is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Matthew Whelan as Assistant Provost and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid.
Matthew Whelan comes to us from St. John's University, where he was Director of Admissions. Matt will continue to strengthen Stony Brook's market presence, develop financial aid leveraging strategies, and develop recruitment strategies in the areas of Admissions, Financial Aid, and Scholarships.
Matt has a record of increasing application and enrollment levels while also improving SAT scores and reducing acceptance rates. Previously, he has held leadership positions in enrollment services at Hofstra University, Mercyhurst College, and William Paterson University. He has also worked in the corporate sector and was a Board member of the National Catholic College Admission Association. Matt Whelan has presented on the topics of motivating and training teams, and maximizing performance, at NY State Admission conferences and on the national level with the College Board and the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC).
