Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management
North Dartmouth, MA

Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management
THE UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS DARTMOUTH

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth seeks applications and nominations for a highly qualified candidate who will lead the University to new levels of excellence in achieving its enrollment management vision and goals. This is an exciting opportunity for a new Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management to bring clarified purpose and vision to the recruitment and retention of undergraduate students who will be able to take maximum advantage of the University’s goals for furthering the development of an engaged, embedded and evolving campus. With its exceptional outreach programs to the communities surrounding the University and its recent Carnegie Classification as a Community Engagement institution for both Curricular Engagement and Outreach and Partnerships, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth enjoys a reputation among the U Mass system institutions of being the campus that is the most engaged and embedded in its community.

While retaining its commitment to excellence in undergraduate education, the University has dramatically increased its research and outreach activities in ways that meet regional needs but have global impact. Some examples of its impressive outreach efforts include centers in: Policy Studies; Portuguese Studies & Culture; Marketing Research; University, School and Community Partnerships; the James J. Kaput Center for Research and Innovation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education; the National Botulinum Research Center, and the Massachusetts Marine Fisheries Institute. This significant increase in both research and outreach has led to many more opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in research and civic engagement.

The University has also been ranked among the top northern public universities by U.S. News and World Report. It offers a broad range of baccalaureate and graduate degrees through its Colleges of: Arts and Sciences; Engineering; Nursing; Visual and Performing Arts; the Charlton College of Business; and the Schools of: Education, Public Policy and Civic Engagement; and Marine Science and Technology. Dartmouth serves 9,155 undergraduate, graduate and continuing education students – 7,982 undergraduates and 1,173 graduate students including both masters and doctoral levels. Approximately 45% of all students reside on campus and about 90% are between the ages of 18 and 24. Eighty five percent of the first year class lives on campus. The University is a unionized environment.

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and is a member of the Provost’s Senior Staff and the Dean’s Council. The Associate Vice Chancellor oversees a staff of 50 full time staff and a budget of approximately $3.5M including personnel. Direct reports include the Directors of Admissions, Financial Aid, and the University Enrollment Center (“one-stop” services), as well as the Registrar. The Associate Vice Chancellor also provides critical leadership to the campus-wide Enrollment Management Team. The position requires proven expertise in the full range of enrollment management responsibilities, including institutional positioning, undergraduate student recruitment and retention, admissions, financial aid, scholarships, tuition discounting, and academic records.

The ideal candidate for the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management will have seven or more years of higher education leadership experience in a successful enrollment management position that is informed by best practices in recruitment and retention, and that has shaped enrollment by academic program, student diversity, and academic ability. Depth of experience in strategic planning, marketing, and developing and coordinating the implementation of a comprehensive student success and retention plan are all musts. Candidates should also be exceptionally skilled in the effective use of enrollment software (preferably PeopleSoft) to recruit and retain students.

The incumbent will be prepared to serve as an agent for change in a highly complex organization; possess exceptional consensus development and team-building, listening, and facilitation skills; have an ability to communicate effectively and persuasively both orally and in writing; and possess strong analytical skills to analyze and use data and information for effective planning and decision-making. A master’s degree is required and a doctorate preferred.

Interested individuals should send a letter describing their interest in and qualifications for the position, a resume, and contact information including mailing and email addresses for three references.
