Rowan University
Rowan University invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Executive Director of Residential Learning and University Housing. Rowan University is strategically located in South Jersey, 20 minutes from Philadelphia. The University has a 200 acre main campus in Glassboro, a campus in Camden and 600 acres one mile from the main campus. Of the 11,000 students enrolled in Rowan University, 9,500 are traditional-age undergraduates.
Rowan University is experiencing a time of robust expansion and opportunity. Rowan University with Cooper University Hospital plans to open Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in 2012. The University envisions becoming a predominantly residential campus, going from a current residential population of 3,600, of which 1, 350 are first-year students, to approximately 5,400 students by the year 2013. As a result of this growth, Residential Learning and University Housing currently is engaged in construction of an apartment complex for upper division students. Phase I opened August 2009 and Phase II will open August 2010. Plans are currently underway for a new first-year student residence hall slated to open August 2013.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Residential Learning/Dean of Student (AVPRL/DOS), the Executive Director of Residential Learning and University Housing is responsible for providing visionary leadership in budget development and personnel management, administration, and strategic planning for a complex, dynamic, high-quality, customer service oriented residential operation. The Executive Director oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of residential living-learning communities focused on strengthening co-curricular learning, promoting community interaction and inclusiveness, leadership, service opportunities, and enhancing retention and graduation rates of students living in on-campus residential facilities. Additionally, the Executive Director, working in collaboration with colleagues in Student Affairs and in Facilities Management, is responsible for the coordination of short- and long-range facilities planning, including debt management, deferred maintenance and renovation schedules, and capital projects for new and existing campus residential facilities. The Executive Director’s leadership portfolio also includes the continual promotion and development of strong working partnerships with colleges within the University, special academic residential programs, and faculty. The Executive Director supervises a diverse staff and oversees the areas of residential learning, maintenance and operations, finance, personnel, and housing assignments.
A master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Business or a related area is required. Seven to ten years progressively responsible experience working in residential education, property/facilities management, and with university students, faculty and staff on a comprehensive university campus. Practical and thorough knowledge of product delivery, especially in the area of residential services, to students is required. Demonstrated progressively responsible supervisory and administrative experience with budget development and management experience, student housing best practices and issues resolution, and experience in capital planning, construction and renovation of student services facilities is essential. Demonstrated sound judgment, management and problem-solving skills, flexibility and the ability to manage multiple projects is a must.
